Freeway Film Company has come up with the first ever Ahmedabad Film Project 2011, a film making competition for amateurs. The competition runs with a time limit of 48hours and that is the challenge for participants. Ahmedabad Film Project is a platform for amateurs and professionals and for every person who ever wanted to make film once.

Ahmedabad Film Project 2011 kicks-off on August 19th 8:OOpm onwards, and thus the 48 hours to filmmaking begin.

The participants are required to form a team or participate as individuals, and shoot 5-8 minutes film in the given time limit within the city premises. The 48 hours end on August 21st, Sunday at8:00pm. The theme of the competition will be revealed to participants 30 minutes before the com- petition. The teams will be allowed to select a genre thereafter. After a week, on August 28th, the winning film will be screened and the awards will be given for 8 categories; Best film, Best acting , Best editing,Best cinematography, Best sound design, Best music , Best use of genre and Bestuse of theme. Ritam Bhatnagar, co-founder of AFP said that "Winning teams will not only be get-ting host of other prizes, certificate but a golden opportunity to make a fully funded film for theupcoming Ahmedabad Heritage Week".

Registrations for Ahmedabad Film Project are open fromJuly 15th 2011 and will continue till August 15th 2011. Paritrupta Bagadia, co-founder of the com- pany mentioned that since the opening of entries on July 15th, more than 70 teams have regis-tered in this competition which is a huge number for Ahmedabad, and a large number of entries are still expected.

Themes : (A) Life (B) Infrastructure (C) Cultural / Festival and (D) Heritage.

Exhibition of selected photos will be held at Sanskar Kendra, Paldi from May 27, 2011 to May 29, 2011.

One can submit maximum 3 photos in each category (total 12 in all maximum) in soft copy - high resolution on CD/DVD and mention the category (Professional / Amateur) and subject along with the name of the photographer, address, contact number, e-mail ID. As expected , Asit vora has been elected as New mayor of Ahmedabad city. While Deputy mayor’s post went to Dudheshwar Councillor Darshana Vaghela whereas Gautam Shah was appointed AMC BJP leader.

Behrampura Councilor Badruddin Shaikh ( Congress ) was made the Leader of the Opposition by congress.
Mayor Asit Vora ensure a transparent administration and revolution in infrastructure development, employment generation and environmental preservation.

Organ Donation Awareness rally in Ahmedabad

To create awareness about Organ Donation amongst Amdavadi people , an NGO called Shatayu has organised a motorbike rally on September 26 in which Around 500 bikers are expected to participate.

The Organ Donation Awareness rally will begin from Rajpath Club and pass through Nehrunagar, Manekbaug, Paldi and Ashram Road to reach Gandhi Ashram. It will then return to the club — this time via Usmanpura under-bridge, Stadium, IIMA and Judges Bungalow Road - for a short informative seminar on organ donation.

Almost one year back Shatayu was founded by Builder Deepak Patel who himself got 2nd life thanks to heart transplant surgery . He is living 2nd life as some one had donated the organ. i.e. Heart. Now he wants to create awareness about the urgent need for more organ donations in this country.

Insight is the oldest fair at IIMA and one of the oldest market research events in the country, with an illustrious history stretching back 22 years. BRTS tickets will be affordable

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) has announced that tickets for Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) will be affordable.

AJL which will operate and maintain BRTS service in the city announced that passengers on these buses will have to pay a minimum of Rs 2 and maximum of Rs 11, once the system starts functioning from RTO to Chandranagar, probably next month.

In comparison to fare structure of Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) buses, the BRTS bus fare will be 1.5 times more. This was endorsed in the AJL board meeting on Wednesday.

Deputy municipal commissioner and in-charge of BRTS UC Padia said, "The minimum fare on the BRTS route from RTO to Chandrnagar has been decided Rs 2 minimum and Rs 11 maximum. This is marginal increase from the existing fare rate of AMTS."

"We are charging Rs 2 for a kilometre on BRTS. The 235 feeder CNG bus service will come by December. The feeder bus service will facilitate the movement of passengers from their nearest AMTS bus stops to BRTS bus stands," he said

AJL authorities have also identified eight parking stretches along the BRTS route. According to AJL members, these stretches will have a capacity of 679 autorickshaws, 3,624 two-wheelers, 425 four- wheelers. The autorickshaws can park their vehicles free of cost on the stretch.

However, the final launch date of BRTS is still under wraps. Standing committee chairperson of AMC and board member of AJL Asit Vora said, "Within a month's time, the BRTS will get operational in the city from RTO to Chandranagar. The AJL will also be adding 20 air-conditioned buses for BRTS but their fares will be decided later."

IIMA to walk the Gandhi way

Unique as it always has been, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) will celebrate Gandhi Jayanti with a difference on Friday.

The students and faculty of IIMA will walk the streets of the city heading to Gandhi Ashram on October 2 in commemoration of the birth anniversary of the father of the nation and to spread the message of greatness of the thoughts and practices of Gandhi. Led by IIMA faculty member, Professor Anil Gupta, the group of students will walk from IIMA to the Gandhi Ashram and interact with people along the way.

Gupta said, "We are taking this Gandhi Jayanti as not only an opportunity to know Gandhi, but also as an opportunity to know him as an institution and understand his philosophy and the Gandhian process."

He said, "During the walk, we intend to discuss our notions of Gandhi and test them through dialogue and exchange of ideas with people along the way. At Sabarmati Ashram, we will discuss our impressions with the Gandhians whom we will meet there."

More than 50 students from various programmes of the institute and batch representatives will join. The walk will start from the gate of the old IIMA campus at 7 am. The students and faculty members will be clad in simple clothes. The group will also interact with the people at Gandhi Ashram.

Expressing his excitement about the event, a student of the current batch of PGPX in IIMA, Anirudh Gupta, said, "For me, this walk is an opportunity to discover and relate to Gandhiji's philosophy, his thoughts and ideals. I am looking forward to interact with fellow students about Gandhiji and also with people on the street."

Another student of PGPX, Parag Prasad, said, "This walk would be one-of-its-kind experience for us during our one-year stay in Ahmedabad. The interactions with professor Gupta, prominent Gandhians at the ashram and other students will add to the overall learning experience."

Ahmedabad to host world salt meet in January

The Indian Salt Manufacturers Association (ISMA), which organised its first national salt conference in Kutch about two years ago, with participation of international experts from some salt-producing countries, will now host world salt conference in Ahmedabad on January 22 next year.

"We announced this at the ninth world salt symposium held for three days at the Chinese capital of Beijing in the first week of the current month and extended our invitation todelegates from 50 countries who attended the Beijing conference," Hiralal Parakh, Gandhidham-based industrialist and national president of ISMA, who led the Indian delegation, told DNA at Gandhidham on his return.

He said that the natural choice for the meet should have been Kutch as the border district was a major producer of salt in the country. "But, we felt that for such an international conference, the venue should be a bigger one, with better air, train and road connectivity, like Ahmedabad," he said.

Parakh said the Ahmedabad conference would be organised by ISMA in collaboration with the salt department of Union industry ministry and the Gujarat government. He said China's progress in salt production was phenomenal, which should be copied by India, one of the key producers of salt in the world.

"China produced 4 crore tonnes of salt four years ago and now the figure is 7 crore tonnes. This was made possible by consolidating small salt pans into huge ones of up to 20,000 acres and modernising production process." He pointed out that in India, bigger salt pans continued to be of 100 to 200 acres, and production techniques were quite old.

He said while it may not be possible to convert small holdings of salt pans into bigger ones in the country, salt production could be increased by using new technology. He said the Indian salt industry could do better if it got help and encouragement from government.

"For mechanised production, one has to invest Rs15 crore to Rs20 crore. But we cannot avail bank loans as the lease of Kandla Port Trust land, which had been leased to us for past more than two decades, has not been renewed by the Union government."

Parakh also lamented the fact that enough train rakes were not being made available to the industry here for supplying salt to different parts of the country.

IIM-A opens doors to visitors

AHMEDABAD : Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), a fortress for some, an aspiration for others and an architectural wonder for others, has been standing amid the city for decades. It's a world of its own, inside the guarded gates of the red brick walls.

IIM-A has now decided to open its gates for the city and let Amdavad take a peek into their lives for three days beginning Thursday.

The institute has thrown the gates open for the city as a part of the Joy of Giving Week celebrations. Every visitor will be charged Rs 25 for the tour. Money raised through this effort will be used to fund education of slum children through Prayaas, an NGO run by students.

"For the first time, the institute is going to offer a guided tour of the campus for school and college students and others who are interested. The one-hour-long tour will cover at least eight to 10 spots on campus like the Harvard Steps, Louis Kahn Plaza, a classroom and the underground passage with a photo gallery. The visitors will also be taken to one of the dormitories, where students reside and the new campus," said Rahul Harkisankar, student co-ordinator of Prayaas.

Visitors in groups of 20 will be taken for the tour between 5 pm to 7.30 pm from Thursday to Saturday. The tour will start from the main gate of the campus. "While on the round tour, visitors will be accompanied by two students of PGP 1, PGP 2 and fellowship programme. A guide will narrate history of the campus, importance of the places visited, architecture, contribution that IIM-A has made to the world and its teaching methodology," Harkisankar added.

The idea of this guided tour has been inspired from the heritage walk, which takes place in the walled city. This is after some students took part in the walk during their first year. "We are expecting to see students who would want to come and find out what a management school is all about," he said.

After having set up many reputed colleges and schools in Ahmedabad, the city’s leading industrialists have come together to gift the city one more institute of learning – Ahmedabad University.

The lead this time is taken by Sanjay S Lalbhai of Lalbhai Group, Sudhir Mehta of Torrent Group, Shrenik Kasturbhai and Naishad Parikh, all governing members of the Ahmedabad Education Society (AES). The city is home to the Gujarat University and Gujarat Vidyapeeth along with several other leading institutes.

The Ahmedabad University (AU) formed by the Ahmedabad Education Society is scheduled to start operating from June 1. The admission process for its bachelor’s program will begin on the same day.

The university will have 11 schools; each headed by a dean and will have graduate as well as post-graduate programs to be headed by a program director.

In the first year (2009-2010), the AU will begin with the School of Management and Commerce and the School of ICT with student capacity of 3135. The number of students in the next 10 years is targeted to grow to 21,790 (15,890 diploma seats and 5,550 master’s degree seats) students.

While the university will start with 124 faculty members, it plans to have 959 in the next 10 years.

The university’s academic calendar will be based on a trimester system and will have a continuous evaluation system. The university will also offer a limited number of seats to candidates from other states, NRI candidates and NRI-sponsored candidates. The university’s BBA honours program will be a one of its kind program launched in the state.

GCET ONLINE EXAM INFORMATION

Government of Gujarat has entrusted Gujarat Technological University to take GCET exam (Entrance Test for MBA & MCA Course) for the academic year 2009-10.

Submission of forms will be online from 5th June 2009 . Link for filling online application form will be made available on www.gtu.ac.in on 5th June.

GCET exam will be taken online at about 18-20 test centers across the state, in the first week of July 2009 .

Test duration will be of 120 minutes and there will be 150 multiple choice questions with negative marking for wrong answers. A typical question set will be of analytic reasoning, quantitative aptitude, language skill etc.

There will be only one test of 150 minutes for students appearing for MBA & MCA both with 180 multiple choice questions.

The Admission forms for BBA and BCA colleges affiliated to Gujarat University will be available at various colleges from May 29 2009 . The last date to submit the admission form is June 3 2009.

Admission Forms for the five-year integrated course in MBA and MCA run by BK School of Business Administration and KS School of Computer Application , will be available from May 29 2009 , at Gujarat University Campus.

"The first merit list of these two institutes will be released on June 2, while the second merit list will come out on June 5. The admission process will be conducted by respective colleges and won't be centralised. It will be concluded by June 7 2009.

"The merit list of BBA and BCA will be released on June 7 2009. For these two courses, students will be able to pay the fee between June 8 and June 10. The second merit list for these courses will be released on June 11, while its forms can be submitted between June 12-13 2009.

There will be 90 seats in BCA division and 110 seats in BBA division. The 12th commerce result will be declared on May 28 2009.

GCET 2009 form - bulletin will be available online

According to Gujarat government's decision GTU will conduct GCET 2009 - MBA and MCA entrance exams this year.

As per the latest press release by GTU , GCET 2009 form / bulletin will be available online from 5th june 2009.

GTU - Gujarat Technical University is firm to complete the admission process by July 7 2009. GCET 2009 will be conducted on 3 different days. Also on these 3 days the entrance exam will be conducted in in many sessions. The MBA aspirants can take any of the sessions . There will be around 18-20 GCET examination centres across Gujarat State.

GCET 2009 paper will be of 150 questions . And the time duration will be 2 hours. Negative Marking applicable to each wrong answer.

Ahmedabad mall rental falls

Once buzzing with a lot of business activity, shopping malls too are feeling the pinch of the slowdown. While mall rentals in retail hotspots like Mumbai and Ahmedabad have seen a correction of 36-42%, other shopping destinations like Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata and the NCR saw a drastic dip since January 2009.

The mall and main street rentals fell as much as 42% in Mumbai and 25% in the NCR in the January-March quarter, compared to preced-ing quarter, according to a report by real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield. Ahmedabad saw corrections in the range of 20-36% over the last quarter.

In the past one year, mall rentals in Ahmedabad alone have corrected by a whopping 33-55%. The correction in rental points to a waning retail sector in Ahmedabad. Be it stores of Indiabulls Retail, Spencer’s Retail or Subhiksha, the retail biggies have either shut shop (completely or partially) or have shrunk in size.

In Mumbai, main-street locations also saw rental correction with Colaba Causeway recording the highest correction of 38%.

Hyderabad recorded one of the highest mall rental corrections of 25-29% due to restrained demand from retailers. Main-street rentals also saw corrections in the range of 5-20%, largely due to renegotiations and restrictive demand.

In Kolkata, the Theatre Road and Elgin Road, two prominent street markets of the city, registered 10% correction on the account of exit of some prominent retailers. In Pune, the Bund Garden Road witnessed the steepest correction of 25%. MG Road remained stable on account of lack of supply.

Gujarat Common Entrance test - GCET 2009 for admission into MBA and MCA colleges of various universities in Gujarat are to be conducted online by GTU - Gujarat Technical University .

The Date for Gcet 2009 :-
GTU will set up 2 examination centers in each district equipped with 50 computers at each center. Students will be able to take the Gcet 2009 online exam on any day between 1st June 2009 to 15 June 2009 .

GCET 2009 Result :
Students will be given their GCET score card just within the 2 hours after he or she completes the exam. This is the first time any GCET taker will be able to know his or her actual score. Till day the students were informed only their GCET rank and their Scores were kept secret.

GD PI excluded From the Admission Procedure :
There is also a change in admission procedure. Earlier GD - PI had a weightage of 20% in . But from now onwards GD PI wont be conducted , only the written ( Online ) exam scores will be considered for the merit list.

Till last year the GCET entrance exam was conducted by various universities in the state. However , Now onwards , Newly formed GTU - Gujarat Technical University will be conducting GCET entrance exam for MBA and MCA.

Under the guidelines of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan , a collaboration of the AMC, City Primary Education Committee (CPEC) and Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) is all set to kick start an Innovative Social Cause for under privileged children of Ahmedabad City.

An education Mobile Bus from November 15 , 2008 will reach out to the kids who never got opportunity of attending schools and having primary education. This is a Pilot project of 6 month and will end on April 30 , 2009. Decision regarding the Extension of this project will be taken later at the end of project in 2009.

For this Project The Collaboration has identified some 140 kids from Gomtipur and Raipur area.
Apart from education the kids will receive Health kits from AMC.

Many NGOs , Students of IIM , and Some Volunteers have been providing free education to slum children in ahmedabad city. But this act from AMC , AMTS is highly appreciable.

NARMADA PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam (SSNNL) in collaboration with Ahmedabad Nature Lovers’ Association (ANALA) is pleased to announce THE FIRST NARMADA ANNUAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION - 2008.

The theme ‘Narmada’ is an inclusive topic and is not restricted to the river of that name alone. The wider connotation of Narmada in terms of the five basic elements of life – especially water – in shaping and sustaining the environment, its beauty and relevant aspects are inherent. The photographs must therefore be related to Narmada in this larger context.

The suggested themes are:
1. Narmada Landscape
2. Wildlife in and around Narmada
3. Narmada – the waters that changed our life.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people to maintain peace in the wake of Saturday's serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and promised a thorough inquiry into the terror attack.

"The act of terrorism is intended to disturb peace and harmony in the state. Those who want to destroy peace would never succeed in their intentions," Modi said.

Among the places where a low-intensity explosion was set off was Maninagar, Narendra Modi's constituency.

Narendra Modi won the last assembly elections from Maninagar with an impressive margin on the promise plank of a safe and prosperous state.

Narendra Modi announced compensation of Rs five lakhs to the families of those killed in today's serial blasts.

The Gujarat government has also announced compensation of Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Modi convened an emergency meeting at the police headquarter in Gandhinagar and reviewed the security situation.

Today serial Bomb blasts in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat have created terror all over India. Till now 17 bomb blasts have been reported. More than 100 people have injured and 42 died. Most probably this is feared to be the the Biggest Ever Terrorist Attack in India.

The affected areas are Maninagar Chowk , Raipur , Bapunagar Diamond Market , Isanpur , Narol , Naroda , Juhapura.Saharanpur , Jawahar Naga the Old part of Ahmedabad City. Bomb blast in Civil Hospital , LG Hospital has also been reported. Civil hospital of Ahmedabad is Biggest Hospital of Asia. One of the blasts occurred inside an AMTS bus. The Terrorists have targeted Sabji Mandis , Hospitals , Bus stands.

Cycles were probably used to plant the bombs, G K Parmar, Joint commissioner of Ahmedabad city police, told rediff.com.

These were well planned attacks. The last 3 blasts were at the hospitals where the victims were being taken.

Investigations has been undertaken and squads are been put to work.

The Gandhi Nagar Ahmedabad highway will be fenced with barbed wire in order to provide security to the CM of Gujarat Shree Narendra Modi. The area used by modi to shuttle fromGandhinagar to Ahmedabad will be secured.

This move is suggested by intelligence wing of Gujarat Police who felt that there can be a terrorirst attack on CM of Gujarat Shree Narendra Modi.

About The Young Leaders World Summit :
This unique Yi Youth Affairs national event will have you in the thick of the action, debate and deliberations on 30 World issues in the most interactive format of a United Nations Simulation. Each of you will play the role of the UN Ambassador of the country assigned to you. You will need to research the foreign policy of that country and the issues that each session will cover in advance of the conference (details of the country assigned to you and the list of topics will be communicated to all students as soon as your registration is accepted)

Topics would broadly range from Nuclear Proliferation, global warming, disarmament, world food crisis, energy crisis, International Aid, Border disputes, a standing UN Army, India's seat in the UN Security Council, Israel-Palestine, Middle East conflicts, Hunger & Malnutrition, HIV-AIDS, global healthcare systems, consumerism and globalisation, to name a few.

Summit Programme & Broad Agenda :
The Summit will open with a Grand opening ceremony at 6 pm on June 6, 2008 with a cultural extravaganza accompanied with a formal sit-down formal fellowship dinner. At this dinner, you will dine with your fellow delegates from other cities and be accompanied on the same table by young Leaders of Industry and Politics.

Three days of highly interactive sessions will follow on June 7, 8 & 9, 2008 with three simulations each of the United Nations General Assembly, the Economic & Social Council and the Security Council. Exact UN parliamentary procedure will be adhered to and the session rooms will be exact replicas of the UN assemblies in form and substance.

Each of you will be a part of debating and discussing at length, each world issue for 2 hours each, giving time for arguments for and against the issue followed by formal voting on each resolution. All deliberations will be webcast and recorded by our media partners for subsequent television broadcasts to an international audience. Our Knowledge Partners will also document all the proceedings and publish a formal set of 'resolutions' which will be submitted to the UN office in New Delhi and circulated worldwide to policymakers in Government and industry and also to CII and Yi members.

This Summit will showcase the opinions of the Indian Youth on possible solutions to global issues. You will be a part of creating a roadmap for the world's future !

The Chief Minister of Gujarat will personally inaugurate the Young Leaders World Summit and Dr Shashi Tharoor, former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations has agreed to be our Guest of Honour at the Opening Ceremony and personally attend and be a part of all days of UN Simulation sessions.

Every evening will provide ample opportunity for touring the city, informal interaction across students from around the country, cultural exchange, etc. This is an entirely residential programme, with all students being provided campus accommodation within the IIM-Ahmedabad student dorms from June 6 to 10, 2008. All meals will be provided on the IIM campus to attending student delegates. After the closing ceremony on the evening of June 9, 2008, students will depart on June 10, 2008.

Travel & Registration Formalities :
To be eligible to apply, you must be a student currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters level programme. Registrations are also open to Young Indians aged 25 to 40 years.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE GRADUATED ON OR AFTER 01 OCTOBER 2007 CAN STILL APPLY AS CURRENT STUDENTS.

THE GLOBAL EDITION OF THE YOUNG LEADERS WORLD SUMMIT WILL FOLLOW IN JUNE 2009, ONCE AGAIN AT IIM AHMEDABAD. Delegates who show their prowess in the India Edition this year will be selected to represent the India delegation at the 2009 Global World Summit. They will be joined by similar delegations from across almost every country of the world.

Today , BJP made announcement of an OBC candidate Kanaji Thakor as Mayor of Ahmedabad and Dr Kalapana Bhatt as deputy Mayor.

Kanaji Thakor is a 3 time councilor from the Madhupura ward and Dr. Kalpana Bhatt is a councilor in her 2^nd term from Narod Muthiya ward.
